Korea Institute of Industrial Technology(KITECH) was founded in 1989 with the objective to support industry sector, especially Small and Medium-sized Enterprises(SMEs). KITECH drives the nation's industrial advancement by developing and commercializing fundamental technologies, technology support, and disseminating the achievements of SMEs.

KITECH designated root industry technology, green manufacturing system technology, and industry convergence technology as the three key research areas essential to advance SMEs and Korea's entire manufacturing industry. KITECH makes efforts to strengthen the nation's industrial fundamentals with needs-based R&D and commercialization, and securing fundamental technology to lead the future.

KITECH is leading technology support across the nation with extensive network of research centers. With an aim to reduce blind spot in technology transfer for SMEs and to respond more effectively to the needs, we are establishing and running 3 institutes of in Incheon, Ansan, and Cheonan and 7 regional divisions of Seonam, Dongnam, Daegyeong, Gangwon, Ulsan, Jeonbuk and Jeju to strengthen technology transfer customized to the needs of the field.

• Dongnam Region which includes Busan, Yangsan, Jinju and Gyeongnam, is the center of Korea's backbone industry and transportation/logistics. At the center, the Dongnam Regional Division is in a prime location to explore new growth engines of car parts materials and offshore plant resources and support the regional industrial development by commercializing the primary core industries.

• Energy Plant R&D Group : R&D for leading offshore & atomic power industry, technical support for domestic offshore & atomic power equipment company, vendor list registration and national & international marketing. Specially, Offshore Resources R&D center in the Energy Plant Group have demonstrated two multiphase flow loops (1-inch and 4-inch) and aimed to study for fundamental knowledge on multiphase pipeline flow and flow assurance in oil & gas industries.
• Advanced Surface Coatings & Processing R&D Group : R&D and technical supports based on surface science & engineering and computational science for advanced multi-functional materials. Many industry-driven researches in advanced thin films & coating systems, surface modifications, tribology, anti-oxidation & corrosion, electronic, magnetic, and semiconductor materials are conducted.
• Transport Mechanical Components Group : R&D for automobile parts, commercial vehicle parts, aircraft parts and heavy equipment parts. Technical support for technology-intensive corporations and technological advancement of local companies in transportation machinery industry
