Welcome to Rims
Since being established in 1996 according to the Article 42 of Industrial Technology
Innovation Act, RIMS has performed test/inspection, evaluation, design Support, and
technical guidance and education about marine leisure equipments, such as small & medium
ships, motor boats, etc. with qualified research personnel and cutting-edge lab equipments,
RIMS takes the lead in performing industrial-educational cooperation research activities on
technical development, performance test & evaluation, automatic Production. Shipbuilding construction
method development, and technical education and guidance to solve field problems, etc. To live up with the increase of
national income and the expansion of leisure demand, RIMS is actively involved in developing marine leisure
equipment, such as yacht, motor boat, canoe, kayak, windsurfing, etc, and builds up a strong collaboration
system with associated industries, such as small & medium shipyards, maritime leisure industry etc.
Through a sustained effort to strengthen competitiveness in this area, RIMS will contribute to
the maintenance of present top position that shipbuilding industry of Korea has held, and
play a role of significance in the furtherance of national economy and welfare.

Marine Leisure Equipment Center
To meet up with the age of per capita GNP 20,000, Marine Leisure
Equipment Center (MLEC) is actively involved in forming a basis to
activate marine leisure, cultivating potential and expert human
resources, and testing/evaluating marine leisure equipment. Since
being established to foster marine Leisure equipment industry and
small & medium shipbuilding industry, MLEC is exclusively charged
with technical development in this field, and contributes to
structural upgrading of marine leisure equipment, creation of
material resources, increase of employment, formation of export
industrialization basis, and the buildup of national competitiveness
if the world.
Technological Development Support for
Southwestern Area
- The Seohae(West sea) Branch of RIMS opened in January, 2000 to
intensively support shipbuilding, shipbuilding material and marine
leisure companies located in southwestern area of korea. The
Seohae Branch will contribute to the activation of local economy in
southwestern area by setting up network with related groups,
university, and government department, like the Small and Medium
Business Administration, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and
Energy, and Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as well as
being connected to professional researchers and various hi-tech
equipments established this research institute.
