INNOPOLIS is a R&BD(research & business development) cluster designated by the Korean government in accordance with
the [Special Act on the support of R&D Zones]. It aim to become a global innovation cluster where the virtuous circle of R&D
- technology commercialization - reinvestment takes place.

Purpose of Establishment
- As a professional technology commercialization institution, INNOPOLIS Foundation promotes realization of a creative economy through accelerating technology-based innovation
Main Roles
- Commercialization of research achievements by creating a technology commercialization base, transferring technology and commercializing research results
- Creation of a venture eco-system through development of High-Tech companies, training of specialized personnel and support of management and marketing
- Building of global environmental infrastructure by forming a global network, creating a management environment and improving coordination between national and local governments
- Construction, support and management of the infrastructure of INNOPOLIS and coordination and approval of entry by companies and organizations
- Interlinking with other areas and provision of support for promoting research results

Overview
- Korea is number 1 in shipbuilding and has a reputation for very skilled workers. Based on the shipbuilding technologies
and R&D capacities, Korea is now shifting into an offshore plant industry. The government has also introduced various
support policies to offshore plant industries using all the technologies accumulated in universities, government-funded
research institutes and companies to lead the world in the offshore plant industry market.
Especially, the government designated INNOPOLIS Busan in November 12nd, 2012 in order to promote Busan as a R&D hub for the offshore plant industry and a business center.
INNOPOLIS Busan is situated in Busan's Gangseo-gu, Geumjong-gu, Yeonje-gu and etc. It has 6 universities, 4 governmentfunded research institutes and about 1000SMEs. In addition to that, about 10 new offshore plant related research centers are waiting to be established until 2018.

- INNOPOLIS BUSAN covers a total area of 14.1 km and is devided into 4 sections : R&D integration District, Manufacturing Hub District, Commercialization Promoting District and Multi-functional High-tech District.

- Role : Major industrial sites of shipbuilding & offshore plant technical commercialization
